Go Go Gocco Go!

So, we've done a new tee and this one's a collaboration between ourselves, Outré Gallery and local artist Kyles Hughes-Odgers (aka Creepy). You might have seen Creepy's art around town, beautifying buildings and walls city wide. We've long been a fan so having the opportunity to produce a tee with his print on it is a real boost!

How did this come about? Well, there's this pretty rad exhibition going on over at Outré Gallery at the moment, it started today in the Perth pad, and it's happening over east too. It's a series of Gocco prints from some super artists. As well as the above design from Creepy, there's the likes of Angelique Houtkamp, Apak, Eveline Tarunadjaja, kozyndan, Leah Dent and Shag participating. We are excited to have a little mini spin-off in our Mini Art Mart! On our walls we are proudly displaying prints from Beci Orpin, Gemma Jones, Sean Morris, Miso, Cat Rabbit, Mel Stringer, and Creepy of course.

And as part of Outskirts Festival happening on and around William Street in Northbridge this Sunday 25th, our very own Isabelle is going to be doing a Gocco print demonstration between 2pm and 4pm at Outré Gallery. You should come on down, it's going to be heaps of fun!

If this Gocco talk is all gobbledygook, it's a lo-fi, Japanese printing process using flash bulbs and screens and inks. It's homemade quality is really lovely.

Anyhoodle, we thought we'd celebrate all this Gocco love with a limited edition tee. We have 100 in a women's fit and 100 in a men's fit. All are printed locally, in Perth, on tri-blend, American Apparel tees. They are soft and comfy!

They are available in store, online, and also at Outré's Perth gallery. They go for $59.

You can nab the hardcover journal for just $24.95. Plan your days in the most delightful way possible, with pretty pictures on nice feeling paper. That's important, isn't it!? It's in week to a page format, with monthly planner pages in there as well. Very useful!

Frankie launches Smith Journal

Things the name "Smith" makes me think of: the evil agent in the Matrix, my best pal from school (it's her surname), and the craft of those talented in the arts of writing (wordsmith) and iron-work (blacksmith). It was the last of these ideas that inspired the creators of frankie magazine when naming their new lifestyle journal for indi boys: Smith Journal. They wanted to create a well-written, interesting mag for guys that has substance... And they have!

Smith is a stylish, new bi-annual mag that speaks to fellas who live on the fringe of mainstream culture. Smith explores stories and adventures of men, and dapper fashion in witty, inspiring, insightful pieces. Plus, just as frankie is fella-friendly, Smith is designed not to exlcude female readers with plenty of interesting stuff for all!

Issue one looks at the perils and pros of living in a house of boats, being a brother, and sailor talk. It's printed on gorgeous stock paper and is a mighty 140+ pages.

Ruck Rover will have Smith Journal available from Sep 5 for $11.95. If you want to be the first to know when it has arrived, email us!

London Calling

Howdy!

It's Claire here, just got back from London. It was a very quick trip, but I thought you'd be keen to hear about my visit to the Emily and Fin studio!

Down a beautiful, little mews, filled with pot plants and ivy covering the walls, lies the creative hub of one of our favourite designers.

I was lucky enough to visit on a day when both Emily and Fin were in, working away on the new collection. I saw a sneak peak of a new style dress and boy is it nice! I can't say much but you will be pleased to know that it's very much in keeping with their classic, vintage inspired designs, with a similar base shape to one of their popular styles but with some delightfully pretty additions and amendments.

I viewed a couple of new ranges which are due in not too long at all. Do you remember the Delilah dress? It was an adorable, 50s style, off-the-shoulder number in a textured black fabric. Well, much to my delight it is coming back! If you missed out last time and don't want to risk that happening again, email us at info@ruckrover.com.au and we will notify you when it is in stock. As usual quantities are limited (we are committed to providing exclusive designs) so it's worth getting in touch if you are keen.

Later in the year will also see the drop of tops, dresses and jackets some other fabrics. While cotton is still very much represented, they've thrown some silk and satin into the mix for something a little fancy. The pieces still remain at the perfect price point, though!

Drops for Emily and Fin stock are frequent. Next time you pop in ask us to show you the latest pieces. One thing's for sure, they are always magnificent!

Thanks to all the girls in the studio for a fun visit (which included me playing dress up). I hope to cross the seas and come and see you again soon.

C xx

Frankie Got Back

Ruck Rover General Store are super stoked to offer you back issues of Frankie magazine!

We pretty much adore Frankie. And not just because it's an awesome celebration of creativity and uniqueness, and something fabulous to flip through while we cozy up on the couch with a hot mug of peppermint tea... But because we feel a certain kinship with the way it grew, and what it stands for.

In 2004 two friends /soul sistas Louise Bannister (pictured) and Lara Burke decided to chase their dream of making a pretty yet minimalist mag that revelled in the things they love: vintage looks, quirky things, and creating (from cool art to great bands and crafty things for you!)

like this bag featured in issue 28, p63!

Ruck Rover was also started by two sisters who had a vision for a little store that could reflect our love for unique pieces, vintage looks and great fabrics, fun and quirky ideas, and art!

Lenko Animal Sweaters

Here at Ruck Rover we are pleased to announce the arrival of LENKO ANIMAL SWEATERS!

For the past four years, these jumpers have been a best seller in their Melbourne flagship store. This year they are available in a select few shops around the country. Yippee!

We have long been fans of Lenko, having stocked their clothing over the last five years. You might remember the doomed romance tee shirts?

These animal sweaters are a unisex fit, with super delicious, fleecy goodness inside and an appliqued animal on the front. Each jumper is made in Melbourne, and every single animal has been cut out and appliqued by hand by Dana Lenko herself. That is a lot of cutting and sewing!!

We hear the photo shoot they did with local Melbourne band Owl Eyes was really fun. It looks it!

The animal sweaters retail for $99.

Do You Have the Guts?

Been gutted lately? Or felt butterflies in your tummy? We feel the best way to be cheered in such situations is to be greeted by a witty, smiling... internal organ!

For the past six years, gut guru and illustrator Wendy Bryan has been creating her I Heart Guts range of plush toys, accessories, tees and babywear that reflect her cheeky sense of humour and fascination for how our bodies work.

These super sweet creations have been causing quite the stir and, wonderfully, have become very popular as gifts or even badges of honour for folks facing difficult health issues and operations.

“A dear friend’s daughter was born a couple of years ago with only one kidney, and with some issues involving her remaining one. My daughter, an RN, bought the baby one of your kidneys. Now two-and-a-half years old — and doing well — this little girl takes the kidney with her everywhere, especially to the doctor’s office. Last week, when having blood drawn at the kidney specialist’s, she insisted ‘I want my kidney!’ The doctor and nurse were first baffled and then highly amused by the way the toy comforted her. We who love her are just grateful that your clever toy helped a toddler laugh instead of cry. Thank you.” - Becky F. (From iheartguts.com)

I Heart Guts make wonderful, (ahem) heartfelt gifts and accessories that are loved around the world!

We love these plush fellas...

I'm your liver

I'm your gallbladder

We also think this pin is rather clever...

... and love these cheeky Tees!

Also available in mens!

From pieces that celebrate the cerebellum to those that can help you show how heartily you heart your loved ones, I Heart Guts have inspired ideas that... have got under our skin!

Find these ostentatious organs online or come and give them a cuddle yourself!

Crowded Teeth and Loungefly!

We are pleased to announce new Crowded Teeth stock has arrived at Ruck Rover! LA based creator & illustrator Michelle Romo came to our attention a few years ago when we started stocking her fabulous Crowded Teeth range...

Her Japanese cartoon and Scandinavian inpsired art refelcts her love of critters and creatures; Romo lives with her husband and her two cats, Hurts and Morgan. We wonder if some of their expressions inspire her creations...

We love these gorgeous teeny tiny studs, available in octopus, mountains, bears, brollies and more. They are less than 1cm across!

Interestingly, Romo has found time between busily writing books on craft and making art to team up with the good folk at Loungefly.

Until the beginning of this year, Romo was Loungefly's Lead Designer and Art Department Manager. No wonder then that our new goodies from Loungelfy also capture the fun, goofy character of Romo's gorgeous work!

We love these almost edible purses in French Fry...

Burger...

Super sweet cupcake...

And more!

Head online or visit us in store to be dazzled by more cheeky, cute and super fun accessories for the sweet-toothed!
