SumSmart Garment Competition

This year we have partnered with the Cancer Council for the second year in a row, for their SunSmart garment competition.

As part of their coursework, Curtin University fashion students had to create a garment that offered good UV protection, that was also stylish and functional. They could then choose to enter their garment into a competition with the winning piece made up and sold in our shop.

The winner this year was Emma Watson, who created a gorgeous, loose fitting dress with frill. It drapes really nicely and, of course, offers high UV protection. Claire was on the judging panel, along with Curtin University staff and members from the Cancer Council, and all judges found it very difficult to choose, with the quality of entries being exceptional.

You can find the frock in store now. It is made from stretch cotton and sells at $89. It's also available through on online store over here.

STAY SAFE 2015

Ruck Rover General Store are proud to announce STAY SAFE 2015, the second annual charity art exhibition founded in 2014 by local artist, writer and curator Kate-Anna St Valentine.
STAY SAFE will feature works from 15 emerging and established Australian artists, centered around the theme of animals. All pieces in the exhibition will be for sale, and for the second year running, the money raised will be donated to Western Australian charity SAFE. Since being founded by Sue Hedley in 2003, SAFE (Saving Animals From Euthanasia) has been committed to stopping the euthanasia of animals for the reason of them having no place to stay. The program began in the Pilbara and has spread throughout Western Australia, where they find foster care and permanent homes for rescued animals.

STAY SAFE 2015 will run from 15 August to 13 September 2015, with an opening night party from 6:30-8:30pm on Friday 14 August with drinks courtesy of Gage Roads Brewing Co and Sipsmith Gin.

The exciting line-up of artists for the 2015 exhibition are:
SEAN MORRIS
TED POWELL
 GEMMA JONES
AMOK ISLAND
MADDY YOUNG
MARTIN E WILLS
ESTHER SANDLER
BRENTON SEE
ANNA DUNNILL
ELIZABETH MARRUFFO
LEONIE BRIALEY
CHIARA HUNWICK
ENID TWIGLET
JESSICA HORROCKS
ROSE SKINNER

The inaugural STAY SAFE exhibition ran from 1-31 July 2014 at Ruck Rover General Store in Northbridge, as part of the Perth Winter Arts Season, and was a great success and loads of fun for those that participated. So much so that Kate-Anna and Ruck Rover co-owner Claire Trolio decided that they should make it an annual exhibition. Earlier this year, Kate-Anna lost her battle with cancer. Claire, along with artist Sean Morris, a close friend of Kate's, and with the blessing of the Williams family, have got together to present STAY SAFE 2015. Please come along and help us to do justice to this event. STAY SAFE 2015 is proudly supported by:

Yelp & Campari Sip & Shop: Event Wrap Up

Last night we held a Yelp event in the shop, so fun! We teamed up with some of our very best Northbridge neighbours, Tú and Red Stripe Clothing, to put on an evening of food, drinks and discounts.

Campari were in on the action, providing drinks at each of the three venues. Shoppers were encouraged to visit each of the stores and pick up free Yelp gifts, enjoy a tipple and check out what Northbridge has to offer.

We had the lovely Emily serving up Aperol Spritzers to our guests in Ruck Rover - and yes we had one or two ourselves. Yum!

Enjoy some snaps of the evening, courtesy of Yelp.

Condé Nast Traveller UK

We know that Northbridge is the best neighbourhood around, with great shopping, eating and drinking to be done, plus art to look at, bands and theatre to watch and cultural events to get involved in all year round. But it's always nice when someone from the other side of the world recognises that too!

Northbridge enjoys a 4 page spread in the April 2015 edition of Condé Nast Traveller UK. It's available online here and is a really nice looking mag, filled with inspiring articles about the world.

Here's the Northbridge feature for you to peruse. We're thrilled to be included in the shop section - along with our William Street friends Periscope and Tú!

Sarah Tout Solo at Mojo's

Our much loved shopgirl Sarah is playing a gig at Mojo's this Sunday 7 December!

Sarah has been playing with Simone and Girlfunkle since May last year, and since 2009 in duo Little Ships. Her new solo sound is a bit darker, edgier and quite loud, and she'll be performing with local drum wizard Pete Guazzelli.

Also on the bill this Sunday evening are Childsaint and Erasers. Doors open at 5pm with Erasers on at 6, Sarah and Pete at 7 and Childsaint at 8pm. Entry is $10 on the door on the night.

There’ll be delicious snacks from Mojo’s BBQ, plus, we've donated a $50 Ruck Rover voucher as a door prize!

Here's the Facebook event page. See you there.
